Caring for silk.

Caring for silk is simpler than you might think. By following a few straightforward steps and essential tips, you can ensure that your silk items remain in excellent condition and maintain their luxurious feel, durability, and natural beauty.

Hand Washing

Hand washing silk is crucial for maintaining its quality and longevity. Silk is a delicate fabric that requires gentle care to preserve its natural fibers and luxurious feel.

We recommend hand washing your SVILLA pieces in cool/lukewarm water using a specialist silk detergent to preserve silk garments and colour and to avoid shrinkage.

Preparation. Fill a clean basin or sink with lukewarm water and add a few drops of gentle silk detergent designed for delicate fabrics. Using a gentle wash will avoid chemical damage which can be caused by harsh chemicals in some detergents. Ensure the water is lukewarm – not too cold or too hot to avoid stretching or shrinkage.

Washing. Soak the silk items for approximately 3-5 minutes. Gently agitate the fabric by plunging it up and down in the water to move the water through the fabric and wash it out. The key is to be gentle and to avoid rubbing or scrubbing vigorously to prevent damaging the delicate fibres.

Rinsing. Rinse thoroughly in lukewarm water until all soap is washed out and the water runs clear.

Drying. Gently wring out excess water by spreading the items on a clean towel and rolling it up. The towel will absorb the moisture, leaving the garments damp but not dripping wet. Do not tumble dry. Hang your pieces on a padded hanger to preserve their shape or lay them flat on a clean surface, avoiding direct sunlight or heat sources to prevent discoloration or shrinkage.

Steaming or Ironing. Steam iron or Iron out any wrinkles and restore lustre and shine of your silk pieces by ironing on a low heat setting. Always iron the inside of the fabric that is not visible when worn to avoid creating shiny spots or damaging the delicate fibres. If you need to iron the outside, place a cloth over the garment to protect the silk.

Storing. Hang your silk pieces on a non-slip coat hanger and store in a closet.

By following these simple care instructions, your silk sleepwear, pillowcases, and eye masks will continue to provide comfort and luxury for a long time, wash after wash.
